Can anybody advise me on the cheapest way to get a JAR ATPL? I have a South African CPL Multi IR. The UK wants 20000 Pounds, Germany 15000 Pound. I was told Portugal and other such countries are the back door countries, what does this mean, is it cheaper???

Try www.ppsc.co.uk (http://www.ppsc.co.uk) They offer very good conversion courses. A friend just finished "converting" his canadian cpl to a JAA ATPL. You have to spend a couple of weeks in the UK thought to take the exams.

Neither Germany nor Portugal have yet implemented JAR-FCL 1 and cannot, therefore, issue JAA licences. If you are being offered training in either of these countries, it's a potential rip-off.

Only the following 9 JAA states have been accepted as having fully implemented JAR-FCL and are approved for the issue of JAR-FCL licences and ratings:

UK, Denmark, Iceland, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain and Belgium
