I am a professional writer researching the period immediately after 9/11.

I would like to talk with ATC professionals who were directly involved at Prestwick during this time, and who have experience of what went on while clearing the skies over Shanwick, and the difficulties and challenges that presented.

Any pointers to existing threads on this subject and/or to websites with good information on this topic will be gratefully latched onto.

As a total newcomer to the forum, I am unsure of the protocols regarding personal messages, but would be open to discussions via email should anyone prefer to do it that way.

Thanks,

ron

Can't imagine you'll get too many replies.

NATS have fairly strict rules on talking to the press or external groups, which I should imagine are even more strictly enforced for such a sensitive subject.

Your best bet to start with would be to email the nats press office explaining who you are, what information you would like and for what purpose.

Thanks, Will.

For what it's worth, I am working on something with no negative axe to grind whatsoever. No tabloid-esque scandal angles nor name-and-shame anythings.

I fully anticipate people being wary of contacting me, which is why I am happy to receive any responses in person through PMs, and to continue from there by email or Skype. I am confident that I can impress anyone that the project I am researching will ruffle no feathers and break no rules.

Thank you Rolaand. I'll try that too.

Which particular Prestwick ATC unit are you referring to; there were three at Prestwick on that date:
Prestwick Airport (non NATS)
Scottish ATCC (NATS)
Shanwick Oceanic (NATS)

Thanks for your question Chevvron - which does a good job of showing just how much of a newby I am to this subject :)

I am primarily intrigued by the huge job undertaken to evacuate the airspace over the Atlantic on September 11th, so perhaps my first information target might be Shanwick. But possibly the unprecedented demands of that day spilled pressure over to the other two units?

If anyone is aware of any website or book that discusses that day, I'd be glad of the heads-up.

Shanwick Oceanic (NATS)

That's the callsign and FIR/UIR name. The unit name back then was the Prestwick Oceanic Area Control Centre.
