I dont think that happens. The captain decides that (they have to do something! lol <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> ). Turbulence is still very unpredictable, so it's always up to the captain to decide.

Seat Belt signs are manual. When smoking was an option, the No Smoking sign could be wired through the nutcracker system, to extinguish automatically when the gear came up.

Gas Man,sorry to be the one to break this one to you.The seatbelt sign controls the turbulence.

Delivery of tea/coffee to the cockpit causes turbulence!

Although Fasten Seat Belt signs on most modern jetliners are automatic, they still can't detect turbulence.. .. .On 747-400's, for example, the Fasten Seat Belts signs can be put on, by "all landing gear not up and locked" logic, by "flaps not up" logic or by "aircraft below 10,300 feet" logic or when the oxygen masks drop due to rapid decompression (Some airlines may differ from this).. .. .Rgds.. .Q.
