Hi,

I've got a 737-400 on my flight simulator and I want to know at what point the yaw damper is turned on-before takeoff or after???

I am of the understanding that a yaw damper is really only used above 10,000' and its not normally needed below that altitude. Also of course it impedes rudder movement so it needs to be off for t/o and landing.

Cheers guys-any pointers appreciated

Yaw Damper is swithched on before engine start and never turned off. If the yaw damper is U/S you have crosswind limit of 10 kts and max wind component of 20 kts for To and Land. Handles quite differently, tends to oscillate quite a bit so the yaw damper is actually very effective at all phases of flight. I am sure someone more technically adept will provide you with more concise information.
