I have heard some people on about parachutes getting fitted to large passenger aircraft.

I know it has been done with small GA planes, but what is the likelihood of it ever getting done.

Or is it just a urban myth/legend?

At approximately 8psi there is several tons of air pressure on the cabin door. If you can not open the cabin door there is not much point in having 'chutes!

At low altitude the pressure differential reduces but, by then, its a bit late to get everyone out!

I assume Laurie was talking about parachutes for planes not the people inside them.

There is one light plane that has this (can't remember its name) and I think it has taken a lot of orders.

I must admit no-one has ever explained the logic. Neither can I imagine how it would contribute much to jet operations.
