Redaing on a thread on R&N about "engine flame-out". Anybody care to tell me what that is and why it's called that?. .Understand that it means that the engines stop, but not a lot else <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Hi Flaps.

There are multiple sorts of engine failure. There are stalls, fires, overheats, severe damage and even separation of the engines.. .An engine flameout is an engine failure without any further damage being immediately apparent.(e.g. no vibration, fire warning etc.). .It usually means there`s no need for immediate actions from memory. . .It could even be restarted. However, an engine doesn`t simply stop working with nothing being wrong with it. So unless there`s a known reason why it failed in the first place, the best thing is not to try and restart it.

Hope this helps.

Literally, the fire went out...

Not necessarily so in the other failures that static mentioned.

BTW, how's your new house?

Just to add to what static mentioned, there is however memory recall items for "Loss of thrust on both engines" Non-normal checklist (737-300/400/500)

You're absolutely right, but i never want to use them in real life (in the simulator it's fun though).
