I have an elderly customer who says he has 64 types on his licence.
Is this a lot or just average for someone who spent most of his working life flying?

Not saying it's impossible, but it's the highest I've heard of.

Depends. Are they all FAR 25 types? And in which jurisdiction? "Type on Licence" has very different meanings in different parts of the world.

Depends as well if he includes all variants...

I'll try and find out more but he is a very active 84 year old much more interested in the present than the past. His background is R.A.F. & B.O.A.C. This figure came up when he mentioned the North African landings last week.

Current total = 97 types flown, but only 10 are mentioned specifically on the licence; the rest under categories such as SE piston(land), ME piston (land), SE piston(sea) etc.

64 types on the licence is one heck of a lot.

So there are countries where you keep every type rating you ever did, in your license, for the rest of your life?
Over in our little JAA corner we only keep the valid ones in our license, and they are only valid for one year, until you do your next FCL check.
