Can anyone identify the two aircraft on the Straight and Level page of this week's Flight International? (21-27 Aug) Particularly the bottom one? Is it by any chance the Miles Co's attempt at the supersonic record that got scrapped? That annular intake is really intriguing.
Any more info/links?

Can't identify both but the lower photo is of a prototype French ram-jet prone pilot machine which the memory comes up with as LEDUC 051(021??) ???? (or similar). In fact, the deep recess brain cells are generating a possible double-barrelled or hyphenated manufacturer's name.
The lack of a tail fin on the top photo points to something like a Cutlass or other 50's fighter of that sort of shape.
Sad, or what?? :o :o
