View Full Version : No winglets on Boeing 777

Apologies if this has been posted before but - most new(ish) aircraft designs have winglets on the end of the wings - Boeing 747-400, A330, A340, even the Tu204. The notable exception is the B777. If the winglet does improve lift, aerodynamics, etc as is claimed, then why not have them on the B777? Is the wing even more advanced? Or are they not so effective after all?

Winglets improve efficiency on an old design. The 747's wing is 1960's technology. Current designs achieve this without needing winglets.
The newest idea is raked tips. Believe the 767-400 has them, the 747X will have them.
