Any Ppruners out there who are members of the Royal Aeronautical Society? Would you say it's worth an APTL applying for membership or is the RAeS more suitable for aeronautical engineers?

Worth every penny, if only for the chance to mix with the people who really know how our aeroplanes work.

Definitely worth it. The magazine almost worth the subsription itself. A monthly version of flight international but better as has in-depth articles as well.
Access to one of the biggest and most comprehensive Aeronautical libraries in the world. Access to lectures and forums from a variety of people. It brings together all walks of Aerospace life - Engineering the biggest followed by aircrew. Good opportunity to meet people.

To quote from the RAeS:

The society was founded in 1866. It is the oldest aeronautical society in the world and has evolved as the global focal point for the entire aerospace community.

Essentially, the society performs three primary roles: to support and maintain the highest standards for professionalism in all aerospace disciplines; to provide a unique source of specialist information and central forum for the exchange of ideas; to exert influence in the interest of aerospace in both the public and industrial arenas.

Currently, the society has six international divisions, almost fifty branches and members in over a hundred companies.

Membership is drawn from a diverse range of organisations. As well as disigners, pilots and engineers, Society members include air traffic controllers, manufacturing staff, doctors, lawyers, planners, marketers, journalists and many, many others.

There are eight grades of membership covering every level of proferssional experience or amateur involvement. Consequently, the Society welcomes applications from anyone who has an association with, or interest in, aerospace.

I've rubbed shoulders with Bob Ayling, Barbra Cassani, Stellios, Sir Michael to name but a few at RAeS.

Membership is also tax deductable when you do those anual returns...
