Flybe is Europe's largest regional airline with 207 routes serving 13 countries, operating from 39 UK and 32 European departure points.
Flybe first introduced their sponsorship scheme in 1995, choosing Cabair College of Air Training (CCAT) as their Training Provider. Over 60 pilots have benefited as a result of the Airline’s initial support and excellent career structure, with several now promoted to Captain.
Successful applicants will complete a Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) Approved Integrated Course at CCAT, Cranfield/Kissimmee, USA and, on graduation, will join the Flybe Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 fleet as First Officers. The course of pilot training is scheduled for completion in 60 weeks.
Requirements
Applicants must meet these requirements:

Be able to demonstrate clear commitment, loyalty and a passion to fly
Have the unrestricted right to work in the UK
Have an absolute minimum of two A levels, to include Mathematics and Physics (or science based subjects)
Hold, or be capable of holding, a UK issued JAA Class 1 Medical Certificate
Have no more than 60 hours of previous flying experienceApplications for the 2011 sponsorship are now invited.

Sounds like a better deal than CTC. Not sure how one can find the moolah, but a UK course which will give you the RHS of a decent TP at the end of it for £55K including accom looks like the best deal on the market

Compare that to trudging off to NZ, getting back to the UK a year later, hang around in a pool, then another £35K to get to a 'partner' airline - I know which I would do

BTW, have Flybe now abandoned MPL ? No mention of it at Cabair

I presume its a combination of not putting all your eggs in one basket and which one is more finacially of benefit to the company

Hmmm same old cabair,
USA SSP = £36000 + $36000 Approx £58000 + CAA fees & Accom Say another £10000

Total £68000

Flybe Scheme USA = £80000

Complete rip off this scheme has been going up over £6000 per annum

£80k to fly a trash8 on £27kpa.

Luckily we don't have to trudge off to NZ, they have the deference to fly us out there (in Emirates, I think). Economy class though, so no shower – pity. The groundschool is now done in the UK before heading off to NZ, so we stay there less than a year, around 8 months. EZY has started knocking at CTC's door again as they profusely need FO's, so time in the pool will reduce drammatically. This is great news for those who graduated in the last two years, and probably for all wannabes. Also, I believe the money towards TR to be in the region of 8K, certainly not 35K.
Having said that, I'd still go for the Flybe scheme. Problem is, competition is much, much tougher than at CTC, as with any scheme of this characteristics.

Flybe only run the MPL in conjunction with FTE and OAA. Both of those schools have current MPL courses underway, with the first FTE MPL grads already under training at Flybe, and the first OAA grads due to start training with Flybe in the New Year. The second courses are not due to graduate until towards the end of 2011 at the earliest.

The other sponsored schemes are both 'traditional' ATPL courses and run at Cabair and PTC in Ireland.

For both types of scheme, the sponsorship element is more correctly described as a tax free, interest free, deferred loan. It is made to the candidate at the commencement of their training to assist with paying up front costs (tax free), and is repaid from salary over the first five years of employment (interest free). Flybe do not ask for any additional payments towards type training, and new pilots are bonded instead for 3 years.

It's not everybody's cup of tea, but it attracts enough applicants for Flybe to select a perfectly able supply of new pilots at predictable points in time with the minimum of fuss.

Having read the prospectus, I'm not sure it's a very good deal. Every penny for training will be paid back, bar the TR cost. And even that comes with a 5 year bond. It is better than no help, but unless you have 40k worth of collateral at your disposal it is probably a waste of time applying unfortunately. Of course the benefit is almost guaranteed employment at course completion but I can't help but feel that if they want the best they would offer a bit more help than what they are offering.
