Does anyone know what the basic eyesight requirements are for entry to the RAF as a SNCO Air Traffic Controller?

I believe that Mil' ATCOs have to have the same CAA Class One/JAA Class 3 Medical certificate as civillian ATCOs which can be issued by the CAA Medical Branch, an authorised civilian AME or the military equivilant.
You need to refer to:

Aeromedical Centre
Aviation House
Gatwick Airport South Area
Gatwick
West Sussex RH6 0YR

Telephone: 01293 573700

As far as I am aware, rank doesn't matter, Air Vice Marshalls need the same medical standards as the bog washer if they want to hold a Class One medical.

Speak to your local Armed Forces Careers Office. They can get the definitive information from Cranwell for you.

Colour blindness is a definite no-no for controllers, but lots of us wear glasses or contact lenses (especially those of us who worked in pitch black radar rooms back in the day). If your vision is correctable by glasses or lenses, you should be in with a chance.

There is also a list of pre-existing medical conditions that preclude you from joining on the RAF Careers website:

Health checks - RAF Careers (http://www.raf.mod.uk/careers/canijoin/health.cfm)

In the end, you will only know by going for selection and getting tested. It is not an examination you can revise for. :ok:
