Been considering investing in one for a while, given it's a great piece of kit for the money (and invaluable in keeping pilots out of trouble) but before I do so I was wondering (given various comments about short battery life and other perceived deficiencies) whether anyone knows if there is an updated model on the horizon given the rate at which almost anything technological gets upgraded these days?

Probably not. I doubt Airbox makes much in the way of profit on the AWARE unit. It's incredibly cheap for what it is. The battery life is the major downside if you don't have a power socket in your aircraft but a power monkey provides a reasonable solution to that problem on longer flights.

It would be nice to get european mapping on it in the future. I'd be more interested in upgrading for that rather than a longer lasting battery.
