View Full Version : Renting/flying in Warsaw?

I might have one day to spare on a business trip to Warsaw. Are there any clubs around Warsaw where I could go fly? Rather than have a BFR by a club to then go fly on my own, it would be great fun to get an hour or two's instruction in some exotic eastern type. Like a Wilga or a Let Morava or something.

Any tips?

So I called the local aero club/flight school and to my great disappointment the Polish CAA has to validate your JAA license (even though they themselves are members), which takes 2 weeks and costs 50 Euros.

Flash from the past - this was something I'd expect 20 years ago, but not now. I hope all this kind of nonsense gets eradicated once EASA JAA rules are fully implemented. One license to fit all.

Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else wants to fly in Poland. Too bad as they had Wilgas and I've always wanted to fly a Wilga.

Adam,
I am a Polish citizen based in Warsaw flying with my CPL JAA license issued by Greek authority,
it is totally legal to fly in Poland with any JAA license,

there is a very active GA (VFR only) airport in Warsaw - EPBC (Warsaw Babice) with 3-4 schools who can rent you a plain, with safety pilot for sure
but you would most probably be able to rent cessna (probably 90% of fleet), maybe piper
RUNWAY PILOT SCHOOL (http://www.runway.pl)
Aviation Asset Management - wynajem samolotów, kursy pilota?u, szkolenia lotnicze, charter samolotu, szko?a latania, kurs pilota?u. (http://www.aam.com.pl)
latanie.silvair.net - they are on a different, their private airstrip 30-40 km SE of Warsaw

concerning Wilga - i doubt any aeroclub in Warsaw can rent it but you may want to check at
Aeroklub Warszawski (http://www.aeroklub.waw.pl)
or just walk to the airfield and ask - i sam 2-3 Wilgas and other old planes in hangar but they rearly fly
this is airport www: Lotnisko Warszawa-Babice (http://www.lotnisko-babice.pl)

good luck

Thanks. I wish I'd know and/or spoken to someone more knowledgeable when I was there, but it's too late now. I've gone back.
