Hi i'm a PPL holder up at York uni. Wondering if anyone has any advice for where to fly? Ideally it would be in PA28s but I'm open to flying anything!
Cheers

Full Sutton, without a doubt.

Any reason why?

Sherburn's not far away. Pa-28s in abundance, along with a couple of AT-3s and Robin 2160 for aerobatics.

And the Tiger trophy aerobatic comp is this weekend!

Let me know if you visit at a weekend and I'll show you round! :-)

Cheers for the info - Sherburn is probably a little too far away from me (seems to be about 1hr 40) from York, I'd ideally want somewhere within the hour/within 45 mins away from York city. Cheers

There's a tidy, underused PA28 at Bagby at a very good rate. Bagby N.Yorks No Equity PA28-161. £55pm, 65ph wet! (http://www.afors.com/index.php?page=adview&adid=14317&imid=0)

Sherburn-in-Elmet is only about 16 miles from York - less than half an hour away.

I believe there is another place in Yorkshire with the same name, which might be where the confusion has arisen.

cheers horatio_b - there is another sherburn in durham - hence the confusion!

Yes thanks horatio_b! I was confused myself there - thought my aeroplane must be faster than I thought when I can be OH York within 5 mins of takeoff! lol

See you there g-enie.....? :ok:

My feeling is that Full Sutton (http://www.fullsuttonairfield.com/)would be better. 15-20 mins away from York, by road, public transport to Full Sutton Prison* - not sure if it stops nearer the airfield but as you are in York it won't be too difficult for you to find out. CFI is a member of the British Aerobatics Team and a very nice, helpful person and they have an aerobatic aircraft. Full Sutton also has the advantage of not being underneath controlled airspace but not so far away that you won't be able to get plenty of experience of it.
*As far as I can see the public transport has student rates but again that should not be beyond your capabilities to check.
Edited to add that it is also cheaper than Sherburn. Membership at Sherburn is £150/year, and at Full Sutton £90 - that's just for starters, hire rates are also cheaper. :) :ok:
Edited again to add that I forgot to give you the bus route number - it's 747 so shouldn't be too difficult to remember. ;)
