I'm thinking of doing an IMC rating but would like to do it in my own aircraft (to keep costs down) and am currently based at Shoreham.

Does anyone have any experience if this in the area or any suggestions as to potential instructors willing to teach in my aircraft?

Go round the school at Shoreham and ask what they think of it.

You are likely to get some who are interested and some who will turn up their nose :)

The plane is likely to need its maintenance reviewed, for training in.

You should absolutely train in your own plane. Currency on type is nearly everything in flying, especially in IMC.

Try Martyn at Sky Leisure - they teach to IR - a good guy and he wont lead you astray (not a relative of mine either!)

They are upstairs in the main terminal building

I strongly agree with that. I did most of mine on my Pup 150 (in 1991) and finished off the last bit in a 172, which was a vastly easier IFR platform. If I had attempted to fly in real IMC conditions in the Pup having only flown the 172 in such conditions I would have had a big fright. As it was I was able to use the IMCR straight out of the bag and did many hours hand flying in cloud over the next few years and got it well and truly out of my system!;)

Another vote for Martyn - an outstanding instructor.

I passed mine 2 months ago, and did 80% of the training in my own PA28.
