I wonder what the FAA are saying to his instructor with reference to his judgement that the student was ready to do a circuit?

At least he only took himself and the aeroplane. Not like the 60s when the hosties used to ask "Coffee, tea...or Cuba?"

Well, to fly 100nm to Cuba is a feat in itself for a person of such low experience. It makes you wonder about the sanity of the guy really. Who would have imagined that this person would have flipped out to this extent?
Instructors aren't psychologists, and if someone can fly safely in normal and abnormal situations then there shouldnt be any problems.

I feel for the poor instructor. I hope Castro got his pizza ok.
