Q1. I am about to buy a share in a G Reg light a/c. I intend to fly in the UK on my Canadian PPL. Are there any complications I should be aware of (insurance etc.) before buying?. .. .Q2. On this a/c I will need a tail wheel conversion. Can this "endoresment" be added to my Canadian PPL or do I need a CCA PPL first (I hope not!).

(1) Legally no insurance is required in the UK, although if you take it out - 3rd party will only be a few hundred quid a year, and full hull around 6-8% of value per year. I believe that UK CAA rules will restrict you to day VMC.. .. .(2) I think you can fly on this with no problems at-all.. .. .(3) Best bet is to phone CAA Flight Crew Licensing on a speakerphone (because it'll take 30 minutes to get through to a human being) and ask them. Don't write, you'll wait a month for a reply.. .. .G

Mutley'. .. .As far as I understand you can fly in the UK in a G registered aircraft without any problem.. .. .However the following are points which you will have to bear in mind. . .. .You will only be allowed Day VFR in UK FIR. No problems. Some (too many) years ago with my brand new FAA PPL I got a share in a F150 in Scotland. The insurance form we had to fill in asked for changes in membership and current qualifications & currency, but no apparent discrimination against foreign licences.. .. .As we were all equal shareholders in the aircraft the CAA were interested, but again no problems. I understand this may not be the case now. . .. .But then I converted my FAA licence to CAA when the first FAA biennial flight review became imminent and have kept both current as my work committments allow. So no problems really.
