That's the strongest rumour floating around these days...

Yeah, they're going to be operated by PacBlue on Australian Domestic sectors only while being crewed by PacBlue crew based in New Zealand.

It's just cheaper that way...

Try 787's. Watch this space.

Try 787's. Watch this spaceI think perhaps gtseraf was on about what's to fill in the time BEFORE the 787's become available.
Cancellations from American carriers, translate into delivery slots available from 2013 onward, but I don't think Borghetti has time to wait.

If you wanna beat a rat, you gotta get up with the sun, son;)

The other, and perhaps even HOTTER internal rumour, is that half a dozen ex EK- A330's are to fill in the stopgap.

What is clear, is that Richard Tanner has suggested to the board that the first medium size wide body will be registered "CAT" while the next VA and VB aircraft to arrive, will be registered "PIG" and "EON", respectively:E

330's, to be crewed by all the resigning Jetstar 330 pilots.

If you want the best price from Boeing on 767's you put out the rumour that your buying A330's.

Indeed, typically it is true that the only time Airbus ever gets a mention is to keep Boeing honest when it comes to negotiating a good deal. That said, the link to a July Flight Global article (re 'VB News' thread elsewhere on PPRuNe) certainly puts forward a strong argument for the A330 - for reasons that (a) Borghetti is a fan of the aeroplane from his time at The Rat, & (b) frames are readily available right now, courtesy of a lease deal from Emirates.

Of course, as is always the case, believe it when you see whatever it is parked at the gate. ;)

Never going to happen.

Ah the famous "Never Going to Happen"

Virgin Blue will never get flying.

Impulse will never get jets.

Bit silly making such blunt statements I reckon.

Can you qualify that statement further roxy?

(a) Borghetti is a fan of the aeroplane from his time at The Rat,

What? He still thinks it was a more appropriate acquisition for Qantas than some 777's?

Pacific blue crewed by jetstar 330 pilots. You heard it here first!

Rumour is they can get A330's for almost the same cost as 767's

24th Aug 2010, 04:49
Like most pilots, all you seem to be worried about is that you're getting new (used) jets. Try being more concerned about WHO will be flying them and for HOW MUCH. That is the real question.

24th Aug 2010, 05:19
They won't be crewed by VB pilots. They'll be crewed by foreign contract pilots with the usual excuses about experience on type, training delays, CASA requirements, insurance requirements, the value of the Peso, the sun both coming up in the east and setting in the west, the Dow Jones, the Tom Jones, loading system Kilo, & whatever else they can think of :suspect:

I'll say it again...wide bodies will be initially on domestic triangle routes to add capacity, crewed by VB. Straight from the horses mouth.

24th Aug 2010, 05:42
To add capacity, they just reduced it ! And that's FACT.

24th Aug 2010, 09:08
330 or 767 will do domestic and medium haul. Eventually under V Aus operation on V Aus Ts and Cs. Wet lease initially then crewed by whoever has seniority, performance, merit or whatever the flavour of the day is.

Have heard that Strategic are talking about some work for V Aus using the 330.

One A330 will not solve the problem DJ have in Sydney. Every second day there is a gate issue in Sydney with one aircraft the other day having 5 gate changes. 4-6 Widebodies are needed now!

Again wrong. If Virgin do get 330/767/787 they will be operated by VB on domestic and PB (VP) med haul.
VA senior management were told they are only LH with 777.

lets hope they have not got too much old QF and choose to keep boeing fleet. 777 and 767-400 share wheels, flt deck, tooling....blah blah. Not going to be 787 but you can dream. no slots avail for a long time. it would be great to see a smart decsion on this.

Jabawocky
25th Aug 2010, 02:06
Just a thought, but how does the 767-400 and for that matter 787 A330 go for fitting into the domestic gates.

767-200/300 are smaller wingspans I believe. Just wondering how that all fits into the game?

Going Boeing
25th Aug 2010, 03:16
Jaba, the B767-400 has the same wing as the -200 & -300 but with tapered wingtips so the wingspan is slightly longer than standard but there would be significantly less problems fitting them at domestic terminals than the A330, B787 and B777. The landing gear is 450mm longer than the previous versions (to allow tail clearance on rotate/landing) and are fitted with larger 50" wheels (same as B777).

As empire4 said, the B764 flight deck is common with the B777 so crews could could be endorsed on both types - would make it attractive wrt crewing issues.

No it ain't. 767-400 has a 777/737NG PFD/ND's etc but the overhead panel and systems are 767. There is no common rating for the 777.

And the correct term is "Raked wingtip". Ahh lahh the 777-200LR 200F 300ER

Oh, and the P-8A Poseidon.

Logically the first A330/767 will be wet leased. If it's the 330 we may even see some Jetstar or Strategic guys operating it.Better book a room at the Brekky Creek boys and organise your one union meeting.

There has been an A330 sitting outside one of the maint. hangars at YBBN for moths, in a "raw sugar" colour, i thought it may have been for Strategic. Anyone know who it belongs to? Maybe they will provide two of them to VB?

Jabba,

Pretty sure that would be the MRTT for the ADF.

F111
26th Aug 2010, 01:02
Yep that one is for the RAAF, plus I think there is also one inside the hangar.

Jabawocky
26th Aug 2010, 02:23
That makes sense then! Having done some work on their new hangar at YAMB I would have expected them out there, but clearly predelivery work by QF being done then.

Thanks :ok:

Thread drift alert

Jaba,

The RAAF MRTTs are flown 'green' from the factory to QDS at BN, where the tanker conversion (including painting in Ronnie grey) is then carried out.

The first two converted were then flown back to Spain for testing.

Biggles,

That (2 x A330) is what's been announced to the ASX today.
