Does anybody out there use an HM headset, and if so what do you think of it? I am thinking of getting one for my PPL, but would be interested to hear other user opinions before I buy. I bought an HM40 two years ago and it's been fine. Had no problems with compatability with the instructor's David Clark headset in the PA38s I flew in, but it may be worth asking your instructor if they're compatable in the aircraft you are learning in. Bought my second one for passengers to wear last year.

I bought an HM40 over six years ago. Very pleased with it after over 450 hours use. I did have an intermittant mic lead which I replaced myself, and I lost the breath pad over the mic and Harry M sent me a replacement by return of post. . .Very comfy (to me) and good value. I think its worth getting a headset case to keep it in. I use the type in the Transair catalogue, but they seem a bit expensive at (from memory) 15gbp. Perhaps HM does cases too.

Like others, I bought a couple of HM40's 2 years ago. I have mixed & matched with Peltor & David Clark headsets with no problems.. .. .They can push your sunglasses into your head after a while, though I doubt if they are unique in that!. .. .Anyway, we'll need sunshine for that to be an issue. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="cool.gif" /> . .. .BtB

I've had my HM-40's for yonks. They stil work well, still comfy, still (relatively) cheap <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> . .. .Don't squeeze the old bonce like DC's either. My old instructor used to have lines engraved in his pate from the DC headband pad..... We never took the mick honest <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
Hi! I got my PPL last year, and after testing quite a large number of headset types I still think that the Peltor 8006 is the best by far, in terms of quality of build, noise atenuation and comfort, they dont weigh a thing! I got mine for about £140 and I wouldn't swop them for anything, HM sells them, but if I were u go to a pilot shop and try a few on!. .. .Tom <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" />

Likewise, I bought a budget HM40 last year and have found it very clear and very comfortable. I had one person I shared a cockpit with complain about noise (sounded fine to me) but he was wearing a clapped out 20 year old basic DC which I suspect would have been interfered with by anything. Other aircraft, no problem, including alongside DCs.. .. .G

I bought a couple of HM40s last year to save my regular passengers from the crackly and crumbling headsets borrowed from the flight club. Not as quiet as my Lightspeeds, but clear and comfortable and they certainly look as if they should survive rattling around in the flight bag. Recommended.. .. .P.S. - If you go for the HM40s, make sure that you get the cloth covers to go with them. You'd be amazed at the difference having sweat-free ears can make.
