I am thinking of planning a flight that would be quickest if I went over D123.. Not something I have done before and I realise this may not be viable as it's a busy old area down there)

Looking up the IAP it looks like I should give Stonehenge Operations a phone call for information prior to planning then contact them on 122.75 during flight (probably getting handed on from Lyneham Zone).

Any good advice to supplement and / or confirm this would be welcome?

In my experience, even if it is not active, they are unlikely to clear you below 3000'. I have always supposed that this is in case some forgotten ordinance happens to explode as you are passing overhead.

Just call Salisbury ops on the radio before you get there and ask the status of D123. They will probably say "D123 is active below 3000" (seems to be normal ;) )...so tell them you are going to cross at 3000 from X to Y. Then they get you to sqwark something and ask you to report leaving the DA.

Simple!

Even simpler if it's a weekend since the Salisbury Ops Frequency becomes an ATIS and there's rarely any activity above 3000ft

Actually it's active up to 3000'. So cross at 3001' I was told.
