Piper PA28 180C - 1966

Does anyone have any performance figures for a Piper PA28 180C and how much of an improvement it would be over a Piper PA28 140.

Is it a true 4xpeople airctaft - the 140 is certainly not (or do I need to shed some lbs).

Mike T, No detailed performance figures from me but I used to fly one regularly over a number of years.

A good touring aircraft, 4 people OK most of the time but need to check W&B of course. I remember a few trips of 2 hour legs with 4 people so possible, but fuel load may also need to be checked.

Rough figures for every day use (you MUST check your own mass and balance though):

Cherokee 140 : Fill one tank to the top and the other to 'tabs'. You can then have pilot plus 2 passengers (each weighing 170 lb) and about 13 lb of baggage before you go over the limit.

Cherokee 180 (about 20 lbs heavier): Fill both tanks to the top. You can then have either pilot plus 3 passengers (each weighing 170 lb) and about 21 lb of baggage - or pilot plus 2 passengers (each weighing 170 lb) and 191 of the 200 lb limit in the baggage compartment before you go over the limit!!

So yes - a 'real' 4 seater so long as you don't want full fuel and 200 lb of baggage at the same time as well. The bigger engine can be rather thirsty if you cruise at much above 2400 rpm though - but it's nice to have the extra oomph if there's just you and a chum, half tanks and a short field involved!!

I clock in at 290 lbs. Used to fly skydivers and the comments don't bear repeating on a civilised forum such as this. Hot days with minimal thermal activity were not a lot of fun.
