I have just received the latest mailshot from Action for Airfields. In the context of defending a gliding site in Essex, they quote the well known lines by Martin Neimoller "First they came for the communists....".
This would be pretty tasteless at the best of times. Now, at the worst of times, it is peculiarly insensitive. Hey guys, it's just an airfield, OK? If the local authority succeeds in closing it, that will not be an indication of a first step towards dictatorship and genocide. It is, I suggest, disrepectful to the memory of victims of hatred, whether in the 1940s or now, to indulge in this sort of absurd overstatement of a case.
