Ladies and Gents
Did a search (very quick albeit) but couldn't find any results for the above. Is the pre-test like a PPL GFT? Also is there an oral test (no rude comments please:=) associated with the test?
Any sensible information gratefully received :ok:

The test is based upon the SEP Class Rating skill test however, the purpose is to allow the FIC instructor to assess the task ahead. He will want to see what you can do and may concentrate on specific items, such as circuits and PFLs. Think of it as a measurement of your current skill rather than as a pass/fail test.

There was one FIC examiner who would ask the candidate to fly from the right hand seat! So beware!

"There was one FIC examiner who would ask the candidate to fly from the right hand seat! So beware!"

A FI examiner is an FIE.
An FIC instructor conducts the FI course.
There is no such thing as an FIC examiner.
A FIC instructor revalidates his FI rating with either an FIE or CAA Staff Examiner.
An FIE revalidates his FI rating with a CAA Staff Examiner

LASORS 2008 SECT H Instructor ratings page H1.2 iv states :

The pre-entry flight test is conducted with a FI qualified as per JAR-FCL 1.330(f) based on the proficiency check as per JAR-FCL 1.240(b), within 6 months preceeding the start of the course. The pre-entry flight test will assess the ability of the applicant to undertake the course,

It is reasonable then that the FIC instructor would wish to fly with his potential student for the FI course to assess the level of skill and knowledge.
As the course and subsequent flying career as a FI will be flown from the Righthand seat then why not get the potential FI to demonstrate his skill from that seat and for both to see the potential problems ahead.
