18Greens,

I recently went through the process of looking at flying clubs to hire from in the MCR / LPL area and considered Hawarden.
The club seems to have some PA38's, 2 TB-10's and a TB-9 for hire with pretty good availability; the thing that prevented me from paying my money is the airfield hours.
As has been said, the airfield is run by BAE, so if they don't man the tower, then the airfield is closed. Weekdays this means evenings up to 19:00, but on weekends everything shuts down at 16:00 which is a bit early in my book. Added to this, Hawarden is about the only field in the country which does not open on bank holidays:mad:
That was enough to send me to Liverpool to hire from Ravenair. Addmittedly they only have PA-38's at the moment, but I am tiold that they have intentions to buy some 4 seat a/c in the near future. The airfield hours are H24 and Ravenair's hours are 08:00 to 20:00 year round. Much better :)
So I have had a check ride and paid my money to join last week and am now looking forward to getting some hours in.
If you fancy PA-38's out of Ravenair on summer evenings then drop me a line..;)
