Probably a few days after the new owner has paid the new ATC Provider 12 months fee in advance and the cheque has cleared.

Heard rumour that Serco had got it - anyone confirm?

If SERCo have got the contract to provide ATS, how are they going to find staff to fulfil it, and how do they propose to train them?

I came across the advert for Coventry ATCOs and ATSAs on Serco's website the other day, think the deadline for applying was Tuesday 25th. What I got from the ad was that they were looking for 9 ATCOs.

I am reliably informed that all the usual suspects have bid for it, (Serco, Marshalls and SafeSkys) along with a "private consortium".
Regardles of who bids, I am not sure that Sir Peter Money Bags has the remotest idea of what it costs to run an airfield with ATC, given the finacial performance of WMIA, any successful bidder will require a substantial upfront payment, probably at least 12 months if not more.
Marshalls lost a packet on the last fiasco and they won't want their fingers burnt again, equally any other bidder will be painfully aware of what is at stake.

I can't see an airport with potential that coventry has being able to run without ATC, indeed I am sure that the CAA will insist upon it, I am just not sure that the new owner, however a successful business man he may be, has the remotest clue of what is required.

Wonder who the 'private consortium' might be, Manchester City FC maybe? Certainly if you want an IFR airport you have to pay out for ATC rather than FISOs, and SERCO have a habit of trying to start with too few staff, then asking for more money to employ more. They even 'borrow' their own staff from other contracts (eg Cranfield/Oxford) and expect them to work both contracts!
