Hi,
What would be an acceptable price range for an FI course in the UK ? im sure the term "acceptable" also depends on one's financial situation so ill clarify mine .... im not rich :}
Has anyone heard anything about Pooley's flying instructor school out of shoreham? website looks pretty professional. They charge around 6 G's for the course which last around 6 weeks.

Thanks for any info !

I would second, or is it even third, speaking to Kevin Rowell at Sherburn.

I passed with him last year and haven't looked back since. Top class flying from somebody who really knows how to teach and he isn't too shabby on knowing everything without being condescending.

Good to hear the Macum is teaching. Top lad, top instructor IMHO if he is a bit more than all the rest money wise he is well worth it.

Although in the current climate have a bloody good word with yourself why you are doing it.

If its for ****s and giggles cause you always wanted to do it, go for it. If its to get "free flying" or "stay current" forget it.

Also tends to have his finger on the pulse with regards to local job availability and if your not a knob he usually gets on the blower to see if he can open any doors for you.

Anything starting with a 6 is good. I did my FI course in 2003 and it cost me almost that then including HOTAC!

Like all aviation courses look at cost of accommodation and how many aircraft they have in the fleet available to your course as well. If you go to a school with 2 a/c and share that with other courses PPLs/CPLs etc then one a/c goes tech you find a weeks delay may cost you dear in accom etc.

From the flying perspective as well look at the surrounding area for airspace/environment. If you do your FI course from a small grass airfield vs a regional or even large commercial/international airport the differences in your time aloft spent transiting will be different however so will you experience of trying to instruct in this sort of enviroment.

So choose where to train keeping in mind where you want to use your qualification afterwards.

Final top tips do not wait to loose the night restriction do it with your initial course straight away and bear in mind that some schools will only employ instructors they have trained so if you are limited nearby your choices may also be similarly constrained.
