Yes - part of the 'incentives' provided by Dubya to get the Pakistanis to allow Coalition forces to operate from their territory.

Incentive??

I don't understand, since any B777 is commercially available to PK and UAL was surely intertested in deferring their deliveries etc. etc.. Just how does this incentive work?

Why couldn't a similar deal work with Airbus, even without a consortium political deal?

Wasn't the real deal with PK (before this) how they were going to unload their older aircraft?

The aircraft are most likely to be financed by a bank consortia with Export Credit support provided by US Exim Bank,- effectively a guarantee against default. Exim in turn would have been asked by Government to support this incentive.

Why an incentive - simply because without Exim support, no bank or leasing company would rate Pakistan 's ability to repay highly enough to considerr pure asset based finance.

A B777 - Id rather fly that any day over the A300's and other ageing dinosaurs in the fleet. I hope PK consider their transit lounge and other passenger facilities at the same time if they hope to fill these aircraft

Not true they are still flying, although the cabin is not upto what it used to be the rest is in pretty good shape.

777 story has been around awhile, who can blame them for trying to get some help from the US!

This is old news, surely...weren't the PIA 777s known about back in October?
