Hi, can anyone give me a heads up on avgas prices in the UK at the minute?
I am in the last couple of weeks of my PPL here in OZ.
I want to compare prices for flying per hr here , and per hour in the UK.
Id say its probably cheaper in the UK due to the exchange rate.Lets see!:ok:

Thanks, fuel is much cheaper here in oz as i expected. A/C hire on the other hand is seems cheaper in the UK than here , so it actually works out the same price to fly in the UK.

Avgas in OZ $1.68AUD = £1.02GBP
Avgas in UK £1.95GBP = $3.21AUD

PA28 (dry) in OZ $168AUD per hr = £102
PA28 (dry) in UK £68GBP per hr = $111

At a fuel burn rate of 36 lph it costs (hire and fuel) £138.72 to run a pa28 in oz , and £138.20 in the uk.

So how much of the price of avgas is taxed? Is it the same as petrol and diesel which is taxed at 80%?
I wish the UK government would get real and stop crippling people with these rip off taxes! Flying would be much more affordable for a start!

I don't know where you get the 80% figure from.
Avgas is subject to excise duty at about 30p/litre, and motor fuel at around 45p/litre (from memory). Both are then subject to VAT at 17.5%.
So a 1.65 litre of Avgas would be about 1.05 if untaxed.

Here in the US, the cost is typically around 80p/litre in UK terms ($5/USGallon) though it's a bigger market with smaller margins compared to UK/Europe.
£1.95/litre is rather at the extreme end of the UK spectrum.

You only have to look at the advert in the top right hand corner of this page to find a PA28 at £56/Hour (dry) in the UK.
