Firstly, i appreciate this may sound like a stupid question to a lot of people, however, i was wanting to find out how lessons are logged with regards to counting hours towards gaining a PPL. For example, if you have one, one hour lesson do you get one hour in your logbook or do you only get the time from brakes off to brakes on or similarly just the time you spend in the air?

Thanks

Officially it's the time "an aircraft first moves under its own power for the purpose of taking off" to the time "an aircraft comes to its final stop after landing". Or off-blocks to on-blocks for short.

In reality, most of us log engine on to engine off, or take-off to landing plus a fixed number of minutes for taxi.

Reason is that that neatly aligns with the way clubs/schools charge for their aircraft.
