Was reading the advance issue of AIRAC 4 (sad I know) and saw the details of the new Western Radar.

What is meant by SLAM facility?

Apparently according to someone who saw the simulator runs (not me), "SLAM" is very apt.

Scuzi:day-to-day providing services outside controlled airspace for aircraft flying over the west countryWhy would Swanwick want to do that when the west country already has the best LARS coverage of anywhere in the UK?

Because although
"the west country already has the best LARS coverage of anywhere in the UK"
it isn't sufficient enough to cope with a sudden loss of Swanwick.

Also, I understand it's to be a middle airspace service and LARS stops at FL95.
