Hey,
I hold an ATP (as well as a S.E. commercial), and need to get a BFR....I have been told by a pilot friend that I can do it in, say, a C172, and that would be good for my ATP's currency. Is this true, or do I have to do it in a multi-engine plane?

61.56 is not very clear on this.

thanks for your feedback

hey,
i hold an ATP and need a Biannual Flight Review (BFR).....can i do it in, say, a C172, and that would count towards my ATP currency, or do i have to do it in a multi engine plane?
I have been told that i can do it in a SE, but i am skeptical.
thanks
61.56 is not specific on this...at least not to me......

You can do a BFR in any airplane for which you are rated, SEL, MEL, Etc. and it will count for all of the others.

61.56 (c):

(c) Except as provided in paragraphs (d), (e), and (g) of this section, no person may act as pilot in command of an aircraft unless, since the beginning of the 24th calendar month before the month in which that pilot acts as pilot in command, that person has—

(1) Accomplished a flight review given in an aircraft for which that pilot is rated by an authorized instructor and

Yes, you can do it in a single assuming you hold a single engine rating.....:ugh:

I'm thinking about doing my BFR in single engine seaplane.
Why don't you get a seaplane rating? You'll love it.

i can just see a foreign licensing body balk at that. but thanks for the info. i did see that in the FARs, but i don't see how a bfr in a c150 could qualify you to be pic-current in a multi. the faa is the galapagos islands of common sense.

For currency, the 3 T/O & Ldgs in previous 90 days need to be in category and class, so you would need to do them single & multi, but the BFR is just one event, so can just be in the one type, which then gives you the ability to go and do the circuits for each different a/c.
