Hi,

Does anyone know whether it is possible to become a flight instructor with a muti-crew limitation (OML)?

Thank you,

Lidd

muti crew limitation refers to a medical cat.

And as the student is defined as flight crew you could say you were complying with the restriction.

The other thing you can do is fly for no hire or reward and charge expenses on a cat 2 medical.

Er, only if they have a licence that is valid and a medical that entitles them to operate as Pilot in Command, Single crew I.E two OML's can't fly together.

OML - Valid only as or with qualified co-pilot. Means exactly that, and if the student doesn't have a flight crew licence they are not a QUALIFIED co-pilot,they are a STUDENT. The clue's in the description!

Simply put, you can teach ab-initio PPL students after they have completed their first solo navigation. You can teach IMC, but only in VMC.

You cannot teach night.

If you want to teach for the CPL, it is only for modular students who already have an ICAO PPL already.

You can fly with people for revalidation, but not for renewal.

Except in the UK where, back in 2004 CAA Flight Ops issued a FODCOM which allows 2 x OML's to fly together as crew on Commercial Air Transport ops, and to the best of my knowledge it is still extant.

Which makes it sound like a CRI rating would be the perfect avenue for you to pursue. Flight with qualified pilots and the full plethora of post PPL training available. Also cheaper to attain and if you are looking to freelance easier to use as it does not come restricted out of the box.

So you could do:

Tailwheel
Retract
Wobbly Prop
EFIS/SLPC
Turbo
Pressurisation

You could also do an IRI and teach for the IMCr and IR. You could also do SPA type ratings. 2 year revalidation flights etc.
