Special VFR clearance

Hi there~

Let me ask you something.


Can a radar controller in approach facility issue a Special VFR clearance to the pilot?

AIM says when a control tower is located within the Class B, C or D surface area, requests for clearances should be to the tower.


I know radar service is provided to SVFR aircraft within control zone class B, C, D or E below 10,000ft


Please explain me about SVFR in detail.

In a word, yes. It's what many approach radar controllers in the UK spend much of their time doing as many SVFR flights are zone transits which have no need to contact the tower of the aerodrome.

The rules regarding SVFR probably vary depending on the country so best advice is for you to check your local AIP.
