Can anyone suggest a descent GCT for use at home on the pc? Something that would make the transition a lot easier without having to go sit in an a/c hooked up to a power pack...
or a website or anything....:ok:

Garmin have produced the Garmin 1000 PC Trainer. It's about £29/$25 and is excellent if you've not tried Glass Cockpit stuff before.

There are free manuals to download:

Garmin | Manuals (http://www8.garmin.com/support/userManual.jsp?market=1&subcategory=59&product=All)

There are also free Garmin 430/530 trainers on their website.

Free 400/500 Series & GNS 480 Simulators (http://www8.garmin.com/include/SimulatorPopup.html)

Avidyne also do a free play simulator

Avidyne Entegra - Aerosim Freeplay Simulator (http://www.avidyne.com/products/entegra/aerosim.asp)

I recommend you try the PC software for the unit you will be using, and also pratise with the ground power plugged in on the actual aircraft as this will save you loads of time in the air.

Edited to add that there are also loads of training videos on Youtube, like this one:
