Hi everyone, Just doing some flight dynamics for Microsoft Flight Sim and I'm wondering about the difference between the advertised Wing Area on aircraft company's websites and my calculated Wing Area. They're very different and I was wondering if I was missing something in my calculations. Example, the CRJ-200's advertised wing is 520.4 Sq Ft. When I calculate it myself, it's 602.3.

Any insight would be appreciated. :ok:

As would, how you came about your calculations?

Well, I use DATCOM and since the CRJ's wings are pretty much double delta wings with a break span instead of a straight tapered wing. So, with three-view top down view in hand, I measured the root chord, tip chord and break-span chord. Then with the formula: (b/2)*root chord*(1+taper ratio) These are for both the inboard and outboard panels. Add them up and you should get the total wing area. I get 322.8 for the inboard panels and 279.52 for the outboard panels. Add them up and you get 602.32 whereas the advertised CRJ area is 520.4.
