Has anyone any suggestions for a good condensed version of the JAR long briefs for the PPL. For use when delivering it to the student rather than the full text. What I'm looking for is a good example that gets the information across without missing anything but avoids you sounding like a talking textbook.

Any suggestions? I could buy every book there is. But someone must have come across or even written a good version.

For my FI rating I had to make a couple of long brief preasentations. I did carb ice and route planning. PM me your email address if you want copies of the .ppt files.

.....but why not do them yourself?

Starting with the briefs that I give regularly I have taken a standard company template and re-worked the paper briefs into powerpoint presentations.

Not only does it give you a tremendous sense of achievement and satisfaction, but it also ensures that you compile the brief as you want it, the diagrams that you want, and once you get proficient at using the software you can animate the slides yourself.

Job jobbed.

Better still, for 1:1 briefs why not forget presentation software altogether and stick with paper (for pre-printed diagrams or pictures) and white board. You'll get much more student involvement that way.
If you're doing a lecture to a group it's a different dynamic and presentation software can be useful.

(BTW, I use "presentation software" because you can get excellent free office software from Sun (OpenOffice) and IBM (Symphony) - you don't have to pay for MS Office)

Well in fact I have done them myself. It's simply a case of my not being overly happy with them. I don't really need someone's entire set of notes to simply plagarise, just a few examples. Also I don't really use PPT as yet and simply would like to see some examples to get an idea of best practice. I won't be copying them. That would be pointless. Essentially I will be using a whiteboard and paper notes for the most part though.

Thanks to welliewanger for his examples. Gives me something to work with. Also for the offer from whiskey kilo wanderer.

I am actually surprised there isn't an official set of condensed briefing notes available for use in presentations by Instructors. You're pretty much left to your own devices.

R.D Campbell and those rectangular cardboard cards seemed to work well. One advantage is that you can update a portion of the brief without having to rework the whole thing. Just edit the card or replace it. Also they fit into a shirt pocket and are quite unobtrusive when you are in front of the board. Stor in little plastic box with rubber bands and card index.
Not up to speed with the JAR long briefs specifically so sorry if this is out of turn.

Hi guys, not sure if your talking plank/heli here but i have briefing slides for most exercises of the PPL(H) at my website http://www.helitutor.com that anyone is welcome to use for briefing or inspiration to create your own, obviously provided there is no monetisation in any way :ok:

I'm putting together keynote lesson presentations for each exercise, in more of a preparatory self study format, but these are reasonable for revision, and taught briefings...

p.s. there will be a few common slides such as carb icing etc...

Aucky, that is very nicely presented. What tools did you use to produce the briefs?

Cheers HFD, they were put together in Pages (an apple programme), they were done very quickly whilst i was doing the FIC course, each evening i would turn the brief from that day into a slide. I intend to go back and make them look better but it's not too high on the priority list. (website is using iWeb, it's crude, but easy to swing together with no knowledge of html etc...)
