Hi friends, I have question about ocenaic datalink clearance.
Does aircraft operator needs special approval from somewhere like CAA to use datalink.

I believe the short answer is yes, here is a link to the FAA operators checklist to use FANS, I am sure whoever you operate under, CAA, JAA etc will have similar procedures.

Thanks for the links, I found below sentence from your link and that is what I was looking for.

Operators should not annotate block 10 with letter “J” until they receive operational authorization to use data link applications.

I would think it would be operators CAA, FAA, CDAG, etc.....but here is a link to the email addresses of the FAA people involved......
