I found this question in an airline interview preparation book, unfortunately it doesn't give the solution or explain the best method to work it out. So i'm hoping there might be a maths whizz on here who could explain the best method to work this problem out quickly without the use of a calculator.

There are 1.15 dinars to 1.5 pounds. A pound will buy you 2.15 roubles. if you had 15,000 dinars, how many pounds would you have with the remainder in roubles?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Dinars are more valuable than pounds, so 15000 Dinars= 15000 x1.5/1.15 = 19,565.21 Pounds = 19565.21 x 2.15 Roubles = 42,065.22 Roubles.

That Russian 'working girl' is definitely screwing you. There are excellent ones on most street corners in Dinar-land. Go do some harder bargaining, but watch out, one hears they are VERY high maintenance!

But your question is incomplete or transcribed incorrectly I think!

so that would be £19565 with .54 roubles (54 kopeks) change.

Obviously 'no country for old men', eh Torque?!

Poisonally I'd be tempted to say 'keep the change':)!

BTW The technically correct answer is NO roubles.!

For lde I would say brush up your long division skills!
