Folks,
Went out on an A346 last week to Washington from LHR...8 hour flight time! Have VS reduced cruise speed to save fuel? 8 hrs for Washington seems a tad long!
The A346 is a very comfortable machine though...we came back today on VSUN, and coming out of IAD, climb was leisurely, to say the least! Never been on a A343 before, but it's reputation for tardiness seems deserved...

8 hour flight to Dulles from London is normal, be it on BA or Virgin. Head winds this time of year are very strong.

Wasn't just the USA flights last week.
Was on a A340 that took 4.5 hours from IST to LHR, with no holding - GS on entertainment system showed 585km/h (365mph) over Germany.

There is a very strong westerly jet at the moment which as causing our very unsettled weather. The only way to avoid the headwinds is to fly a more northerly route so increasing the track miles flown. It's a lose, lose situation.

Thanks guys,
New about the jetstream, didn't appreciate that it could have such an effect...
Always thought Washington was about 7 out, 6 back...
