Incident: Jetstar A332 near Guam on Oct 28th 2009, series of ECAM messages

By Simon Hradecky, created Friday, Oct 30th 2009 11:17Z, last updated Friday, Oct 30th 2009 11:17Z
A Jetstar Airways Airbus A330-200, registration VH-EBA performing flight JQ-12 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to Bilinga Gold Coast,QL (Australia), was enroute near Guam (Guam), when the crew received a series of ECAM messages including a "NAV ADR DISAGREE" message, the autopilot disconnected and the flight control computers changed to alternate law. The crew continued to Australia, where the airplane landed safely at the Gold Coast Airport about 5 hours later 30 minutes ahead of schedule.

The Australian Transportation Safety Board rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation.

Any idea about JQ's A332s pitots, manufacturer ?

I was thinking more of the ADIRU manufacturer?

BTW FlyBoy, as you've decided to pollute this discussion, you might like to know that your dogmatically chosen manufacturer of choice has had similar problems.... Boeing 777 loses vital flight air data, SAARU, ADIRU, Australian Air Safety Investigation, B-777 fly-by-wire (http://www.airlinesafety.com/faq/777DataFailure.htm)
but don't let a complete lack of knowledge about aircraft, computer systems, theory and practice of safety-critical systems, piloting stop you from making stupid, brain dead commments...

I was thinking more of the ADIRU manufacturer? It could be possible that the ADIRS computer box could be faulty.
The ADIRU gets part of its information from the pitot static system as its input and the recent AD the pitot system from Goodrich makes me wonder whether they had it changed.

Flyboy, are you being paid by an organization(s) for your nonsensical propaganda against the A330 in PPrune?

Everyone knows by now that the A330 has a serious anomaly concerning Pitots and ADR's, so it is nothing new.
Albeit a very serious incident, and thankfully the outcome is ok, it has some benefits as well: we have more data (!), more resources (AUS TSB joins the club, carrying along some recent investigaton experience on the A330), and it bloody well makes sure everybody (incl Airbus and the French TSB) want to find the cause. Hopefully it speeds up the investigation.

So back to this incident, any more details?

Qantas and Jetstar's A330s all have BFGoodrich pitots.

"BFGoodrich" normally make those black round things at the end of the landing gear. BFGoodrich® Tires (http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfgapp/index.jsp)

The UK company Rosemount Aerospace trading as Goodrich Sensor Systems designs and manufacturers air data systems and componets like pitot tubes for the A330. Goodrich Corporation purchased Rosemount Aerospace from the Emerson Electric Company back in the early 1990s.

That's disturbing, it doesn't fit the pattern.
The "suspect" pitots are Thales'.

What about the ADIRU? (Sorry to ask again) Northrop Grumman?...what other commonalities are there? Stage of flight? Weather conditions? FMC parameters? FADEC? Pilots (surely not!) ?
