Looking out this evening from Shenzhen to Hong Kong on a very rare clear night, I saw some very stange lights.
My attention initially attracted to a pin point flashing blue/red light( similar to a police strobe). However then noticed a line of 7 similar lights, but weaker as seemed further away. The lights were moving in formation as a straight line slowly moving up and down the sky. The height was hard to guess but seemed very high so in which case the lights were spread over a distance of many km. Really strange.
Did anyone flying into SZX or HKG this evening see anything?

PS I have have flown for many years and have never seen anything like this:confused:

I saw something similar when I was living in northern China and it did intrigue me some what. Interesting however that the locals were all nonchalant about seeing the same. Later I discovered that all it was was a kite flying at night with lights attached to it's string thereby causing the row of flashing lights all in a straight line. I felt disappointed after having discovered that. I was hoping it was a UFO or something. :E

I'm not sure whether this is the same as what you saw. I was at ground level, looking up, when I saw them.

It's Mid Autumn Lantern Festival this time of year.

On October 3rd after sundown, folks sent up miniature hot air balloons, of a roughly spherical 60 cm in diameter. (The actual date is lunar, so expect it to fall on some other solar date next year.)

You make a wish and write it on the balloon, or "hot air flying lantern" before releasing it.

Beautiful to see.
