Thank you for taking the time to submit such a detailed question. It really helps everyone to know exactly what you are looking for, the time you have to spend not to mention the funding you have available. Have you looked into OAA? They seem very good and I hope to make it there in few years down the line. At present, I am investing in obtaining my PPL and intend to add a full IR to that at a later date. However, that is the limit of my investment for the next few years while a keep a close eye on the industry.
If you feel like providing more background information I would be more than happy to make more appropriate suggestions.

Regards,
Ryan.

Do we have 'flight' schools in Britain?

The best way that you can make your decision is by visiting both schools, listen to what they tell you, read the leaflets and really try to imagine yourself undergoing flying training there; then you're in a better position to decide what school you most want to train at.

Also, I'm not sure if this is appropriate for the Private Flying forum; as I expect you'll find more useful responses (indeed, the question may even have been asked already!)from one of the Wannabes forums. Is there a moderator about who could move this?

Seeing as you ask, it doesn't seem wildly inappropriate for someone to post a question about private flying in the Private Flying forum.
Moreover, it says on the tin:
Wannabes Forums
Forums for those aspiring to join our fraternity of professional aviators with the best view in the house. Please use the Private Flying forum for initial PPL issues and anything not connected with professional licences.

:hmm:

Jeez Ryan, the guy asked a simple question. Why would you need his life story to comment on the relative merits of FS or Delta?

I visited FS many years ago whilst on vacation in Florida and took the grand tour. It's a big school, and would appear to be a well run organisation but the student who was assigned to show me around was less than complimentary when it came to questions of aircraft availability. Perhaps he had a personal axe to grind but I got the impression that they were operating at capacity with very little wriggle room. They are also one of the most expensive schools. I've no experience with Delta but a search in the professional training forum will surely unearth more information on your two choices.
