For A320/319, according to QRH 2.04 Landing with Slats or Flaps jammed, once we established the landing configuration.
Is that possible to take advantage of GS mini by using managed speed? or we have to select speed till touch down?

i'm on 330/340, perhaps the flapless checklist looks more or less the same.

Select Green Dot speed for the initial approach. (say 220 knots)

In a flapless config, we're still required as per the C/L to select CONF 1 (VFE 205 knots). VAPP target speed is limited to VFE-5 (200 knots). So, there is no need to select managed speed as the FMGS won't give you a faster VAPP target.

this is my thought. correct me if i'm wrong guys~

what about if we have to carry out an overweight landing? i guess we can use managed speed to take advantage of GS mini in this scenario. it's not mentioned in the QRH though whether the approach is to be flown at selected or managed speed.

Disregard 7478's post about A330/340 - on the A320 we select FLAP 3.

But the speed is mentioned in the FCTM in "CONSEQUENCES" where it says..
The selected speed must be used

My (old?) QRH says in the notes
Approach with selected speed is recommended

The reason is the ABNORMAL Vapp calculation QRH 2.31 - up to ΔREF of 20 kts we add a wind correction and insert the figure on PERF APP page. If you select managed speed GS mini might increase Vapp above this figure and compromise your careful landing distance calculations.

But surely as a general principle if overweight you do not want excess speed on short finals?

TyroPicard:

thx for the input.
same here to select VLS for final approach. However, it's not mentioned in the QRH whether to use selected or managed. Our company's FCTM says we have to push managed speed once landing config is achieved.

certainly we don't wanna see excess speed on short final. The VAPP target will take care of it and filter out the instantaneous HWC below 400'RA.

QRH 2.04:

LANDING WITH SLATS OR FLAPS JAMMED

LANDING CONF................CONF 3

SPEED SEL..................VFE NEXT -5

Doesn't mention anywhere returning to managed speed

Think it through - to fly at VLS instead of VAPP with A/THR engaged you have to use selected speed! (Unless you use VLS as your managed target - but that is not SOP).
I say again - and it says Reduce the selected speed on the FCU.... in the QRH.

I think you should keep speed selected instead of managed and the reason is GS mini. In case of Vapprtarget increase you could catch an overspeed because on speed tape you have max speed connected with lever but actual max speed is that according to actual position.

TyroPicard:

Understood. there's a discrepancy then between my QRH and FCTM.

I refer to the overweight landing checklist and my QRH says:
TARGET SPEED...... VLS

Also my company's FCTM says push managed speed once landing config is achieved.

once again, i refer to my company's manuals. it does makes sense to me to get rid of GSmini by using selected speed
