Is there anywhere that I could source for old ATC recordings, beit home-made or other wise....?

Given that it is illegal to listen to such transmissions you may not have much luck but there are forums devoted to such activities and you may get some response from them.

If you register at Listen to Live Air Traffic Control Communications | LiveATC.net (http://www.liveatc.net/) and go to Interesting Recordings (http://www.liveatc.net/recordings.php)
you can download some from Heathrow in 1975 and loads more.
