View Full Version : NZ ATC Visit
Hi there. I’m wondering if anybody knows how to go about visiting a local ATC tower in NZ?
I’ve been selected for the initial ATC selection testing sometime soon and would really appreciate a visit to a local tower before the testing. I’m based in Napier but am happy to travel.
Cheers

Ring them up!!!! That's what i did and had very interesting visits to Rotorua Tower, Auckland Tower and Centre. They're a great bunch of people.

It's generally no problem at all unless there is something weird happening on the day.
Visitors are usually welcome. A phone call to the team leader or tower manager is all it takes to get the ball rolling.
Chocolate biscuits are a good idea. ;)

Yep, just ring the tower and ask. I had a very interesting visit to Tauranga tower a few years ago.

Just a heads up, at the moment there is a pandemic contingency in effect that may throw a spanner in the works. Basically no non-essential staff are supposed to be in the cab, to reduce as much as possible possible spread of the H1N1 virus.
So definitely check first.
What Tarq57 said.
Mate of mine works in the AA/AKL tower - says visits are a no go at the moment. He's had a couple of requests and had to turn them down due to flu rules. Plus I believe he said they're also doing some training this month in Auckland making it even harder to get in.
Having said that, at a smaller field like RO/ROT you may get in if the controller at the time is feeling generous enough to break the rules (guidelines?)
