Hi there!

Does anybody have some suggestions about DRIFTDOWN procedures or have some drafts from SOP/OM and so on...?
I need to complete those procedures and do not know where to start...:uhoh:...

Would be grateful for your help..!

Have a nice day!

OK, as a starter for 10, with terrain critical:

Airbus A320 family:
1. Start ECAM actions
2. Set MCT on good engine and A/Thr Off
3. Decelerate in level flight to green dot speed
4. Determine cruise FL (LRC ceiling)
5. Notify ATC
Commence driftdown
6. Pull SPD when at green dot
7. ALT on FCU - selected cruise FL pull

B747-400
1. Leave A/P and A/T engaged and control any yaw with rudder/rudder trim
2.Notify ATC that driftdown will commence
3. Select ENG OUT on FMS VNAV CRZ page and note driftdown altitude displayed
4. If above this altitude, select the altitude on MCP
5. Select E/O speed from FMS and 'execute'
MCT will be set automatically and speed will decay towrds E/O speed and driftdown will commence in VNAV Speed
6. Action any required lateral navigation

Airbus and Boeing have some excellent material on how to do drift down analysis in their class handouts and books. Unfortunately their materials are not always easy to find but if you have friends who have attended formal performance engineering classes at either OEM perhaps they will let you borrow their copies.

L1011.
Leave autopilot and thrust management engaged.
Select the driftdown page on the FMS.
Select critical or non-critical, depending on terrain considerations.
Arm then Execute driftdown on the FMS.
Adjust rudder trim as necessary.
Notify ATC.
Adjust the altitude alert to the new driftdown altitude.
Adjust LNAV track as necessary.

Lockheed PFM, since 1976.

Does the driftdown are execute always the same way or does it exist a difference depending the conditions. e.g. Icing or no icing, high terrain, ETOPS, etc.? Is there only one speed for driftdown (L/D max) or are there any other depending on the situation?

The L1011 offers two distinct modes, critical or non-critical, depending on the terrain encountered and the specific desires of the pilots.
One offers minimal height loss over time, the other a more reasonable driftdown procedure...but both end up at the highest possible engine inop cruise altitude, consistant with enroute weight, and maneuver capability.
