Can you tell me how many captains and FOs are necesary for each type of airplane in your company?

Ideally four. Two to drive and whilst they are eating on the turnaround, the other two are responsible for refuelling and whilst the other crew member is in charge of all duty free purchases in the terminal. :}

here at indiGo we have a fleet of 20 aircraft with 17 destinations have a strength of about 220 pilots.
This includes our Chief Pilot, VP - Operations, and Check Pilots, TRI/TRE and a few guys from Airbus pilots.
So I guess, our magic number is 11 pilots per aircraft.

Generally around 6 to 7 crews per airframe for maximum utilisation.

At EK on the B777 we are running at 8 crews per A/C.
Extra are needed for the augmenting sectors on ULR.
However pilots are now working up to 90 hours/month with more A/C arriving and not too many new recruits. I think that we will be looking about under 7.5 per A/C.

vinayak, if you have a total of 220 pilots, you would have roughly a 50/50 split between Captains and F/Os, therefore you would have a crewing of 5.5 crews per A/C not 11

the amount of crew depends on the Work time regulations though... there is a minimum stated by law..

Short haul operation: 4 to 6 crews per aircraft, this will vary and depend on sector lengths and flight time limitations.
Long haul: 9 to 11 crews per aircraft. FTLs and frequency of the operation will apply.

Laker DC-10 long haul fleet was 7 crews per aircraft.

Yup 7 crews was probably enough for New York, Miami and LA and Freddie wasn't known for leaving his crews by the hotel pool for too long!!! (I worked for him too!!). 9 to 11 crews more appropriate for, say, SIA and similar.
Present company, 2.5 crews per aircraft.
IE: two aircraft operating, five crews between the two.
Type, L1011, ad-hoc charters.
Beginning next year, ad-hoc and track program charters to the Caribbean will be undertaken, requiring three crews per aircraft. Our marketing manager is ex-Laker, from the old days, and knows his stuff.
