Hi folks,

I just went to get my Class 1 medical, and I failed the first initial colorblind test where you have to determine the numbers among all the colorful dots. Then I was told to take the other test where I have to arrange the colors from blue to green to red, etc, and I passed that with flying colors. Is that normal? The 2nd test was supposed to be harder according to my optometrist....

hi there,

do not worry, same happened to me always have trouble to find the numbers in the Ishara test. I guess you did the D15 color test wich is also ok for transport canada so you should be ok for the Cat 1 medical certification in Canada.... but can be a different story in some other countries

Anyway easy tip... keep the blue side up and you should be fine:ok:

Yes, I am afraid you have failed the Canadian Colour Blind Spelling Test

But I think you might pass the American one.

Good Luck.

Eleven years ago I failed the same test after years of barely getting by. I was referred to an eye specialist in YYC who gave me the Lantern Test. I passed and he provided a letter to TC that has allowed me to forgo subsequent testing since. I, and probably you, have a Colour Deficiency and not true Colour Blindness. When I moved to Halifax the doctor wanted me to do the Farnsworth Test and I passed with "flying colours" as well!!

I know from previous eye tests that I will fail the ishara http://static.pprune.org/images/smilies/boohoo.gif.

Does anyone know anywhere in the Toronto region where I can do I lantern test either on its own or as part of a class 1.

Thanks
Keith

Being colorblind myself and having failed the D15 test for TC I thought the Lantern test was not accepted anymore, please tell me I can go see an optometrist to see if I can pass the lantern test.

Just recently went through this myself. First Medical, Class 3.

As I failed the Ishihara (never been able to do them, until someone tells me the answer then I can see them occasionally), got a letter from Transport giving me the alternatives.

You can do the Farnsworth D15 at an otometrist of your choice, or do a lantern test - If I remember correctly there is an office at Buttonville that can do it.

I chose the Farnsworth, as I knew I had previously passed it - went to my local optometrist and $10 later I had a letter to send to Transport. A few weeks later, an unrestricted Medical arrived in the post!

Try this - 2 good points.

1) It seemed to me very cheap

2) If you fail, you don't need to tell anyone!
