The Reuters report (http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/LT619880.htm)said there were 2 crew members on board so would that suggest a 737 rather than a 727?

Aviation Herald reports (http://www.avherald.com/h?article=418d693b&opt=0) the plane as a "Centrafrique Air Express Boeing 727-200, freight flight from Brazzaville (Congo) to Harare (Zimbabwe) with 2 crew, is reported crashed southeast of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, near the village of Massamba about 80 km south of Kenge and about 140nm from Brazzaville, around 6am local (05:00Z)." (more on Aviation Herald (http://www.avherald.com/h?article=418d693b&opt=0)).

Update: As noted below, AV Herald now reports type as 737, not 727.

The same link now says B-732, might be TL-ADR.

AA's logo is still visible on the tail of that 72 ........... but it's a long time since it got any Tulsa TLC!

Their 73 doesn't look in much better cosmetic shape. Real Cockroach Corner candidates. God help the poor b*gg*rs who fly them.

not Centreafrique Air Express for sure. Must be a Congo registered Aircraft.

For sure 100 % not TL-ADR as I just called them( TL-ADR crew)

I have leased those guys several times, and just called them, they are all safe.
PS: Their Pilots come from Western Countries and non is an Algerian or local.

It could be then TL-ADM as it is reported now that it was a Bako Air 732 with 7 crew members onboard and it was going for heavy maintenance to HRE after it was stored for years in BGF...

The mere fact of being 28 years old is not unsafe, being in Africa and not having flown for in excess of 1 year is of some significance

BAKO AIR is owned by a Private citizen of Central Africa.
TAC is owned by Wings of Lebanon and they are operating normal in Congo since more than 15 yrs..

I flew for TAC on the 727 for a 4 month contract (via Brookfield, BTY) from 6/2001 - 10/2001 and had no problems...just typical African aviation style operations...

An AP Report (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hnrUnZY3YMpbuIXnDRn-b1SRbkEgD97T0LR00) puts the death toll at 7, and quotes the Congo CAA Director as saying that there was an explosion, which tore the plane apart in flight.
